My name is Retta and I was born in Cherbourg, Queensland. I moved to Brisbane when I was 12 and did most of my schooling on the Northside of Brisbane. I later moved to Logan where I still remain today with my partner William.
I have five children and nine grandchildren who keep me busy. When I had my last child, William Jnr who is known to everybody as Boy, around the age of two he was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. Boy is now 6, it’s been hard work but as a family we have managed to cope.
Through help from the Mums and Bubs Clinic in Woodridge, Boy has been able to access speech and occupational therapy which has helped his growth and development. Boy also attended the Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP) which helped him learn different skills that I was unable to teach him. Boy now attends the Logan City Special School which is tremendous and has helped him come such a long way with his speech and learning.
I am continuously finding out about ways to better understand and support Boy’s disability and I am excited about now being connected with the Network so I can learn a bit more about what’s going on and connect with others.
